How to find free parking near you
If you let your browser share your location, the map opens where you are. If not, tap «Use my location» under «Near me», or move the map yourself. «Free» is already selected under «Filters», so the list below the map shows the five free car parks closest to its centre, with the distance to each. Tap «Show more» for the next ones. Car parks without a name are listed as «Car park».
Tap «Free» again to see every car park, or «Paid» for the ones that charge. Tap a car park to make it your destination, and Roadme works out the drive there from your starting point: the distance and, on a longer trip, the fuel, tolls, bridges and ferries as well.
Free car parks by country
According to OpenStreetMap, as of (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL):
| Country | Free car parks |
|---|---|
| Norway | 3,635 |
| Sweden | 8,860 |
| Denmark | 6,335 |
| Finland | 7,411 |
Some car parks in OpenStreetMap don't say whether they charge, so they aren't counted here. They do show up on the parking near me map.
Free, but for how long?
Many free car parks have a time limit, and the sign at the entrance says how long you may stay. In Denmark, Sweden and Finland, if the sign asks for a parking disc (P-skive, P-skiva, pysäköintikiekko), set it to your arrival time rounded up – to the next quarter hour in Denmark, to the next half or full hour in Sweden and Finland – and put it on the dashboard. The disc and the other rules of the road are explained in driving in Denmark, driving in Sweden and driving in Finland.
Free parking in town
Looking for free parking in Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm or Helsinki? Move the map to the city, and the list shows the free car parks nearest the centre of the map. In Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim and Stavanger, the drive into the centre usually takes you through a toll ring, and in Gothenburg and Stockholm into a congestion charge zone. Enter your start above and pick a free car park as your destination: the calculator adds any toll or congestion charge on the way, at the rate for the time you set off. For how Norway's toll rings work, see the Norway toll calculator.
